The story behind the candles

Hi, I’m Deirdre, founder of Maple Beech Co and the person behind every pour.

Like a lot of mums, my days are full. Between work, family and the never-ending mental load, quiet moments can feel rare. Candles became one of the simplest ways I could create one.

I wasn’t drawn to candles that sat on a shelf looking serious. I loved the ones that made me smile before I even lit them. Scents that reminded me of birthday cake still warm from the oven, waffle cones on summer afternoons and the unmistakable sweetness of Nan’s kitchen on a baking day.

The problem was, I couldn’t find candles that captured those memories while also looking beautiful in my home.

So I began making them myself.

Maple Beech Co started at my kitchen bench with a bag of soy wax, a handful of fragrance oils and plenty of pours that didn’t quite go to plan. What began as a way to make my home feel warmer slowly grew into something I couldn’t stop creating.

Today, every candle is still poured and finished by hand in small batches here in Melbourne. From Bubblegum Waffle Cone to Lemon Meringue, each one is designed to bring something back.

A memory.
A mood.
A moment that feels like yours.

I believe the everyday deserves a little ceremony. That home should smell as comforting as it feels. And that a candle can be more than fragrance. It can be the signal that the day is slowing down, the finishing touch before people arrive, or ten quiet minutes after the kids are finally asleep.

These candles aren’t made to sit untouched on a shelf. They’re made for kitchen benches, bedside tables and the moments that turn an ordinary day into one you’ll remember.
